How Assessments Work

Players will run through stations including hitting, fielding, throwing, & hitting.  Scores will be assigned by evaluators based on criteria detailed below.  Evaluators are chosen specifically due to not having connections with children in the league to ensure unbiased evaluation.  Coaches may attend evaluations for their division and keep scores for their own draft purposes.

Parents may not observe the assessments (it makes the kids nervous) and will be asked to attend an orientation in the cafeteria where league funding, policies, and goals will be presented.

Scores will be used as a guideline to ensure players will be safe at their assigned level and to balance the teams during the draft.

Determining Appropriate Level:
Sometimes evaluation scores indicate that player(s) are not ready for the level of play or competition of the league for which they are being evaluated. This can present a safety issue if there is a great disparity in the skills at the high and low ends of the spectrum, and it has the potential to make the playing experience less enjoyable for those who are not ready for their designated level.  In such cases, the board may decide that it is necessary to move a player up or down outside the predefined age brackets.  This is always a difficult decision, and as such is carefully considered by the board and done in the best interest of all kids involved.

Confidentiality: Evaluation results will only be sent to head coaches by the Player Agent and only the rank of the player will be shared - not individual scores.  Any distribution beyond the head coach and approved assistant is strictly prohibited.  Any discussion or sharing of results with other parents or children may result in the Manager and/or Assistant Coach being removed from the position.
