Divisions 2017

Little League Baseball and Softball Divisions

League ages are different for Baseball and Softball players.  To determine your league age, please review the following charts:

Baseball Age Chart 2018

Softball Age Chart 2018

Your child will be placed in their division by age alone.  Assessments are used to balance teams within a division and ensure players will have a safe and enjoyable experience.

TEE BALL (ROOKIE) - League Ages 4-6

Children must be at least League Age 4 and attending kindergarten in the fall to be eligible.   Please see league age link above for clarification.

Tee Ball is an introduction to the game of baseball. Boys and girls are taught how to throw, catch and hit off a Tee. The basic rules of the game, fielding positions, and answers to questions like “which way do you run after you hit the ball?” are reinforced with fun practice drills and short 3-4 inning games. By the end of the season, games will become more structured and coach pitch will be introduced.

Coach Pitch (A Ball) - League Ages 5-6

Coach Pitch (A Ball) is open to players who are league ages 5-6 and who have played at least one year of Tee Ball.

Coach Pitch is a developmental league for boys and girls and will be your child’s first introduction to “real” baseball (with coaches pitching to their own teams). Players can strike out after 6 swinging strikes. There are regular practices 1-2 times per week with two games per week.
Parents may elect to have players who are league age 7 play an additional year of Coach Pitch if they feel their child is not ready to move on to Player Pitch (AA).

Player Pitch (AA) - League Ages 7-8

Player Pitch Baseball and Softball are for players that are league ages 7 - 8 and have played a year of Coach Pitch (A).  In addition, 9-year-olds who are not ready for the level of play and higher level of competitive in Minor League (AAA) will play in Player Pitch (AA).  Player Pitch is the first level of competitive baseball for boys and girls in which kids begin to pitch in games. For the first time the opposing pitcher is trying to strike out the batter. There are still no walks. After 4 balls to any batter the coach for the hitting team pitches to that batter. There are regular practices 1-2 times per week with two games per week.  GNGLL has baseball and softball divisions at this level of play and above.

MINOR LEAGUE (AAA) - League Ages 9-10

Minors Baseball and Softball are for players that are league ages 9 & 10 who have played at least one year of Player Pitch (AA) and are ready for the increased level of play and competition.  In addition, 11-year-olds who are not ready to compete at the level required of Major League will play in Minor League (AAA).

ALL PLAYERS REGISTERING FOR THIS LEAGUE MUST ATTEND PLAYER EVALUATIONS IN MARCH. YOU WILL BE CONTACTED BY A LEAGUE OFFICIAL WITH SPECIFIC DATES & TIMES FOR YOUR CHILD.

This is a competitive league in which kids are encouraged to try playing all positions. Coaches rotate the players’ fielding positions inning to inning and rules regarding pitch count are enforced. Batters can earn walks and strong pitching can dominate even the best hitters early in the season.

MAJOR LEAGUE - League Ages 11-12

Majors Baseball and Softball for players who are league age 11 or 12 and have played a year of Minor League.  Players who are league age 11, but are assessed as not ready to safely play and enjoy majors may be placed on a Minors (AAA) team.

ALL PLAYERS REGISTERING FOR THIS LEAGUE MUST ATTEND PLAYER EVALUATIONS IN MARCH.

ALL PLAYERS RETURNING TO MAJORS BASEBALL ARE REQUIRED TO ATTEND EVALUATIONS.  All players that are league age 12 will be placed on a major league team. This is the most competitive level of baseball on a little league sized field.

Senior Minors & Senior Majors

We also offer Senior Minors for both softball and baseball players.  These are for players ages 12+ who wish to continue playing little league ball.  At times, we also offer Senior Majors options if there is enough interest.  These options are available during registration and placement is automatic.  Once registered, the league will contact about the teams and options.  These are always travel teams and play against other leagues in our local area.
